Marked by Anya Marina's bitingly funny lines delivered in a deceptively cutesy voice, Miss Halfway is a startlingly confident and effective first album. "Clean & Sober," a celebration of finally getting over someone you wouldn't mind seeing "die a fiery death" and built around a brilliantly buried hook at the chorus, announces the feel and style of the record — whip-smart and acoustic enough to play at any coffeehouse. What may come as a surprise is Marina's ability (and desire) to make the listener laugh even as they envision their ex under various forms of torture. While there are comparisons to be made between Marina and the equally insightful (but tinged with sarcasm) early work of Liz Phair, Marina's music is more immediately accessible (and ultimately inviting), evidenced by the producers of teen film phenomenon Twilight: New Moon enlisting the infinitely likeable singer-guitarist to write a song for its soundtrack. Miss Halfway may open with a trio of fantastic cuts, but the strong songs keep coming, with key track "Sociopath," and highlights "Fantasy" and "Someday" all rounding out the second half of the album.

REALLY?

I can't belive only two people have written reviews for this album! It's great! They all have meanings and messages that you can take and convert back to real life and I think for the people that are willing to take the time and think about the songs that they buy, this album is ideal. Some of my favorites on here are Miss. Halfway, of course, Clean and Sober, and I also like Sociopath, but I will have to say that Miss. Halfway wins my approval by a landslide. Five stars all the way!

Great album

A great album, especially knowing it's the first Anya's album.
The only song I don't like here is "If It Feels Right", but that is because the male voice sounds much much worse than Anya's one does and that (not to mention lousy quality) does spoil a good song.

Where has she been???

ok this girl's voice is killer. her style is unique and has a hint of mystery to it. very nice but seriously 04? and now she has a hit song on the new moon sountrack, which have ofcourse, Satilite heart is amazing and shines some light on her previous work. Anya voice has matured a lot and in the new song. which has a bit more raw feeling in it, making it perfect for the movie its featured in. i hope to hear more by her.
