Stripped-down and back to the roots
A decent mix of traditional and original and more recent folk blues and r&b... "Make Me Down a Pallet On Your Floor" and "On a Monday" are well done, and the latter seems to be an appropriate nod to Jim Dickinson's work with Ry Cooder (Cooder's cover of the Leadbelly standard on "Into the Purple Valley is outstanding). "Masters of War" takes Dylan in a new direction, and the stripped down "Snakes In My Bushes" is a highlight as well. Slide work is excellent as always - it's good to hear these guys laying it down with acoustic instruments.

Moving into much rootsier territory than their former punk band DDT, brothers Luther (guitar, mandolin, vocals) and Cody Dickinson (drums, sampling) formed the North Mississippi Allstars in 1996 with bassist Chris Chew.
