iTunes Review
"Ex-Rainbow singer Ronnie James Dio's second and final studio album with Black Sabbath is an oft-overlooked gem within the Sabbath catalog. While the legendary group's first four studio albums carry the weight of being among the most defining records of the genre, the two post-Ozzy Osbourne albums (this and 1980's Heaven and Hell, while more traditional heavy metal in tone, are powerfully tight collections that shine particular light on guitarist Tony Iommi's virtuoso guitar leads and a rhythm section never known for its flash or funk. For Mob Rules Vinny Appice replaces original drummer Bill Ward, who had taken leave with illness, and Appice's aggression is felt throughout. ""Turn Up the Night"" and ""The Mob Rules"" cruise with the sleek assurance typical of '80s metal and an admittedly un-Sabbath-like fluidity. ""Voodoo"" is closer to the group's churning speed, with the seven-plus-minute epic ""The Sign of the Southern Cross"" perfectly fitting the band's persona and groove. "

Mob Rules!
I was 21 when this album came out. I had loved Sabbath since 1970. Had every album that came out. And loved them all. This album also was one of my favorites of them all. Like Dehumanizer, Live Evil & Heaven and Hell, I bought the 2008 "Rules of Hell" reissue. "The Sign of the Southern Cross" is one of the greatest tracks that Dio had wrote with Sabbath. Vinny Appice makes sure that on this album he was heard. And he sure was. "Turn Up the Night" had blew me away the 1st time I listened to it. The same with "Voodoo" which features a very impressive and godly solo from Iommi. "Country Girl", "Over and Over", & "Falling Off the Edge of the World" are 3 gems that are amazing and show the power of the band. "Falling off the Edge of the World" has the intro that could just send shivers down your spine. To me, it's the best track on the album but hey, that's my opinion. I'm not saying that the title track, "Turn Up the Night", & "Voodoo" (Which are common album favorites) are bad. They're amazing. Over all, download this album. It's a metal masterpiece and it's worth the money that's spent on it.
Dio
R.I.P., Ronnie. Thanks for giving us 30+ years of great music.
As far as this album goes, my favorite song is "Falling Off the Edge of the World". In fact, "Falling..." and "Heaven and Hell" are my two favorite Dio-era Black Sabbath songs.
Great album.
It is a great album with Dio, but then again, where's the Ozzy years? Wake up iTunes!
