the return
Can a band return from almost not existing in the larger scale view of its participants side projects? Well the 'Agents' have. To get it out of the way Ikey is the keyboardist for The Mars Volta....thats how i found out about him, im assuming you too...anyway, the Agents first release 'Everybodys Favorite Weapon' had wet my tongue for the tinkling keys of this piano man (as well as his work in De Facto, and side projects with 2mex, and songodsons). This new album strolls through the ambience and hip hop like before but with a new laid back dirty rock feel. Though contradictory of the welcome strings in the first song, that gritty edge can be felt throughout the record with the eminant and slinky capstone 'Drugs and Drink' a wonderful combination groove, grit, humor, and a musical depth that leaves you swimming in the deep end. Songs like 'Six Degrees' leave you stunned with the beautiful vocal composition and evocative instrumentation harkening back to the beautiful sarenade of 'Gem from a Broken Rock' along with the revisited (both off of 'Weapon) 'Under Water Reverb' bringing in the new gang to add a touch of life to one of the "old dogs." Overall i cant say enough of this album; it's fun, sultry, seductive, exotic, groovey, alluring, and what ive been waiting to hear for far too long. Thanks Ikey and the rest of the group, as well as all you cats at GSL.
