iTunes Review

One of music’s most beloved albums, The Dark Side of the Moon is a surprisingly challenging work. As much an aural collage as a straightforward art-rock treatise, the record uses its 43 minutes to link speaking voices, sound effects-heavy musique concrete, a bravura performance by gospel-soul singer Doris Troy (“The Great Gig in the Sky”), moody existentialist statements (“Time,” “Us and Them”) and a funk-rooted strut (“Money”) that put the Floyd on U.S. pop radio for the first time. Packed both with grandeur and worry, Dark Side has resonated with rock fans since its 1973 issue, selling more than 15 million copies in America alone. “I’ll see you on the dark side of the moon,” the ominous, regretful pledge that climaxes “Brain Damage,” predicts the disc’s near-universal appeal.

One of the best rock albums ever! A true classic.

Wow

Probably my favorite album by Pink Floyd, and definitely their most successful. You can't argue with an album that was in the top 200 in sales for 12 years. One of my favorite things about the band is how the songs mostly run together if you listen straight down the album. They're a pretty moody band, and definitely one of the strangest, but they're in my top 5 bands without a doubt. My two favorite songs on the album are Time and Money, but I love every song on this album. They should make every song album only to stop people from only buying Money.

Listen up haters

Let me explain why this album is so damn good. All the people who hate this album all say it's too spacy and only good if you're high. These people have clearly not listened to the album all the way through. This is not for the easy listening crowd. This is deep, well thought out music, that has to be enjoyed and not just casually listened too. You can't just casually watch Citizen Kane, you need to view it as an experience. And that's what this album is. Clear your schedule and play this thing all the way through. Pink Floyd are not gifted in the art of song making, they are gifted in the art of album making. The songs unfold in such a way that they are set up perfectly. I give it 6/5. And I've never used drugs, or even drank alcohol once in my life.

Pink Floyd is the premier space rock band. Since the mid-'60s, their music relentlessly tinkered with electronics and all manner of special effects to push pop formats to their outer limits. At the same time they wrestled with lyrical themes and concepts of such massive scale that their music has taken...
