"Not a classic..." Really?
This is my first rating on iTunes and it couldn't be for a better album. Talk about "desert island discs," this is certainly one of my five. Cissy Houston (Whitney's mom) singing back-up on a couple of tracks only shows the range of this album and this band. I hope anyone who found Geils through "Centerfold" will check out "Monkey Island." It's not "schizophrenic," it's spectrum, scope, space, span, spectrum, sphere, spread, stretch, sweep. These guys (and this album) are great.
Monkey Island
This is one of those albums that everyone should own and no one knows about. The range of songs on this album is amazing. Songs Surrender, Monkey Island and Wreckage are my favorites and show this range of styles.
Monkey Island....not Geils
I was told this by a band member not sure but it sounds true..This was the last album in the bands contract with i believe atlantic and they were very unhappy with the demand to make one more album,they wrote monkey island a 9 minute song made it the title and knew that radio play for that song would not happen thus killing the profits to a money hungry album company , and moved to EMI to continue there great music.Leave it to this GREAT band to try to mess up a album company and still have hits! Listen to monkey island and relate this story and you'll feel the bands intent.
