Album Review

For a self-professed post-hardcore band, Sainthood Reps are poppier than most, as capable of filling a song with slow, spacy guitar arpeggios as fast ‘n’ furious riffs. On Monoculture, the band makes its debut with a collection of songs that breathe, echo, and bounce off the studio walls, creating a sound that has its roots in hard rock and its head in the ether. Technically speaking, “monoculture” refers to the farming technique of planting one crop across an immense area, which maximizes yield without requiring much labor. This album takes the opposite approach. Sainthood Reps spread themselves wide, channeling Nirvana on the alt-rock chorus of “Dingus” and churning up a grungy, shoegazing groove during “Telemarketeer.” When they turn the amps up, Monoculture rocks hard. But the band sounds better on the softer songs, which show off the underused vocal chops of Francesco Montesanto while blazing a more unique trail.

A Good Start

This is by no means my favorite band or album, but I'll be keeping an eye on them in the future. The sound is fresh and very edgy, with a strong sense of passion and intensity. Hopefully they'll come back with another album where they understand their own sound better next time, and are able to grow musically. That being said, I'd recommend this album. This group has the potential talent to do whatever they want in the future; whether they want to break into the mainstream or become part of Tooth & Nail's underground subculture, they could do either, and do it their way.

Passion at its finest

Tooth and Nail has always produced the bands that have been the young soul and energy of Christian music. Once again, they've rejuvenated the creative, beautiful and passionate cries of young Christians in the world with, what I feel, is their BEST BAND: SAINTHOOD REPS.

*Definitely buy this album if you're into bands that aren't going out of their way to "market" themselves. Sainthood Reps stay real, true and exciting because they use their talents the way they want to and not the way some label tells them to.
GRACE AND PEACE

Good job Derrick!

I heard this band for the first time at the regency ballroom in San Francisco along with the Robbers and loved both of them! I only regret not showing my appreciation for their deep and creative sound by crowd surfing and getting into their songs. The crowd that night was was horrible. They just stood their and had no respect to the opening bands. Even if I was to crowd surf I'd probably get beat up by someone that's how "dingus" the crowd was. As a matter of fact I did get beat up even as I crowd surfed for brand new. Either way I should have set an example for the crowd. When I get my next paycheck I'm buying their whole album. Hope to see them headlining festivals.

Formed in the winter of 2009, Sainthood Reps play a moody mix of post-grunge, hard rock, and post-hardcore. Co-founders Francesco Montesanto and Derrick Sherman grew up together in Long Island, New York, where they developed a mutual interest in bands like Mogwai, Fugazi, and Explosions in the Sky. When Montesanto recorded a collection of demos inspired by those bands, Sherman was quick to join the project, which quickly spiraled into a full-fledged band with the addition of Bradley Cordaro and Jani...
