WHAT HAPPENED????
Ok, let me first start off by saying that altho i love brutal death metal and black metal, im not one of those metalcore/hardcore breakdown hating people that refuse to broaden thier metal horizons. That being said i thought that "The Shrouded Divine" was one of THE BEST METAL ALBUMS EVER MADE!! everything about it was perfect, it was melodic, heavy, had a great mood throught it...but im not going to get into that becuase this is not about that allbum, its about this one...
Right off the bat this album starts off with a breakdown, wich i dont have a problem with, but i kept listening and pretty much the whole song is a breakdown!! and after that i listened to the other songs, and the whole f*ckin album is a breakdown!! All the melodies and atmospheric mood and beautiful brutalness of the first album has been lost! There is almost no memorable songs on this album, The Final Solution is decent, but nothing that really strikes me as "this band really has some good songwriting skills, and a lot of potential". I honestly liked these guys better than Opeth before this album. Plus, i actually paid for this album instead of downloading it like i usually do, becuase i thought it was going to be amazing!! OOOOPS. Ill probably end up editing this review after i listen to the album more, but for now i really hate it, and think this band took a huge step in the wrong direction, and if they continue this way i could definatly seeing them ending up bland and uninteresting music, which would be tragic considering how amazing they started out to be.
The future of melodic death
I also must address the two morons below me. I can't possibly understand how you cannot like this album especially if you liked shrouded design. Their breakdowns are far better than most other death metal bands and this album is even more melodic than their debut. With that said, In Mourning is very quickly rising to the top of the death metal scene. They even have some clean vocals on this album. One song that really gets my attention and one of the catchiest songs on the album is "The Poet and Painter of Souls". I'm almost even tempted to say this album is better than Dark Tranquillity's We Are The Void
Good
Good Album.
I think the cussing brings the album down though. I can hear where they are heavily influenced by prog death bands like Opeth.
Overall 8/10.
