Deva Premal is like a Prima Goddess, alive with power

The great Deva Premal has done it again, releasing an album of beautiful meditational music. Where in Dakshina she evoked the sense of deep spiritual power and awareness that lies in the names and aspects of Hindu scripture, here she chooses instead to give you a beautiful and evocative rendition of the Moola Mantra, a beautiful mantra which is designed to elevate the spirit to a higher plane of awareness through the invocation of the cosmic divine force. Om Sat-Chit-Ananda Parabrahma Purushothama Paramatma Sri Bhagavathi Sametha Sri Bhagavathe Namaha Is essentially the whole of the lyrics for the whole album, with additional bits here and there, but the repetitive nature of the lyrics, or rather the Mantra itself, is meant to put your mind into a higher state of being. To connect you with the divine in a way you might not otherwise achieve. While I am not a Hindu, or Hare Krishna (which is essentially a sect of Hinduism), I do believe in the ideals of Oneness that they both aspire to bring to the world not by forcing you to be as they are, but by forcing you to look inside yourself to find the good, the beauty, and the purity that lies there at your heart. To find God, if you will, inside yourself, because we are all connected to the divine in some way. The music of Miten, Deva Premal’s life partner, is enchanting in the true sense of the word, casting a spell on you and making Deva’s angelic voice soar and catch hold of you body and spirit so that you may fly with her. He does not intrude upon her, he mingles with her, lifts her and in turn is lifted by her in a way that only people who are truly entwined with each other at the most fundamental spiritual way can be. I am currently inspired to write some mantras for the Hellenic community myself, though they are something that must come from them, the blessed Gods, not simply from imagination.

A True Gift

The beauty of this music hit me suddently starting with Part 1 and through Part III. I found waves of bliss and ecstacy coming through me as I listened to this harmonious music. It brings you to a place of peace and creativity that I simply cannot describe. Turn up the music and let it flow through you, it is a true gift.
