Customer Reviews

Not stellar, unfortunately

I've been comparing different versions of the Moonlight Sonata and Mr. Ashkenazy's interpretation, while definitely not the worst of the four I've heard so far, doesn't reach its potential. The tempo is a bit faster than usual, which was actually a welcome, "awakening" change. Ashkenazy does a pretty decent job at expressing moods, considering the "speed". Unfortunately, a couple of times in the third movement the arpeggios become mangled and the rhytm gets lost; I also wonder if the odd pause at 0:14 was really intentional. Promising start but, unfortunately, a disappointing finale.

By far the best rendition of booth moonlight and sonata no. 23

I searched for years for this song after I lost the CD. I've must have spend a $100 downloading 10 different versions of No. 23 only to be disappointed each time. I grew to love this CD only to loose it years ago. I finally searched Amazon.com and started looking through album covers and came to realized it was Vladamie I was looking for. Thank you Itunes. Thank you Vladimir!

Vladimir Ashkenazy-my favorite!

Mr. Ashkenazy's distinct style brings these great classics to life and this quality recording sounds great on my iPod.
