iTunes Review

Featuring two fine new tracks, “That’s How People Grow Up” and “All You Need Is Me,” a live version of Patti Smith’s “Redondo Beach,” and a heavy sampling of tracks from his 2004 release, You Are The Quarry and 2006’s Ringleader of the Tormentors,” Greatest Hits is chiefly a look at the former Smiths singer during his solo career’s second go-round. “Everyday is Like Sunday,” “Last of the Famous International Playboys,” “Suedehead,” and “The More You Ignore Me, The Closer I Get” represent the older classic standbys, but Morrissey is more eager here to establish his later work. “First of the Gang to Die,” “I Have Forgiven Jesus,” “The Youngest Was the Most Loved,” and “In the Future When All’s Well,” all feature his traditionally emotional delivery, droll wit, and melodic freehand. His music has calmed to a stately, modest pop churn with sturdy guitars and keyboards laying down an unobtrusive foundation for his literate observations on youth gone mad and awry.

Lazy-Sellout

Just what we needed, another greatest hits album to waste money on. No Thank you.

The Mozz is back.

Having seen his 2007 tour, this is definitely a good time for Morrissey fans. Not only did he do most of these songs ,but (gasp) Smiths' standards. This is one of the better compilations of Morrissey's later work, but I suggest you check out the original discs these came from to appreiciate the greatness of this artist.Enjoy the music of a passionate songwriter. May your Light Never Go Out. Ant

As the lead singer of the Smiths, arguably the most important indie band in Britain during the '80s, Morrissey's theatrical crooning and literate, poetic lyrics — filled with romantic angst, social alienation, and cutting wit — connected powerfully with a legion of similarly sensitive, disaffected youth. These fans turned The Smiths into stars in Britain, exerting tremendous pull over much of the country's guitar-based music for many years after their breakup, and even if the group remained...
