Hardly & Softley! The Right Mix Up!
"These are the time you got to ready your mind," says Mortimer Softley aka Natural Black. Blacks been ready for a long time. Whether he gives it to you in his signature gruff voice or smooth delivery, there is no denying Blacks got the right stuff to go all the way. He adds all the natural blend of classic roots and never seeks to alienate his modern day leanings. This is music from the highest order. Unlike some of his peers who stray to far and experiment outside the genre, Blacks keep it balance within the spiritual every time. I get it. He wants to show us that Mortima Hardly is his one way of experimenting using an alter ego playing off of his birth name Mortimer Softley but there is nothing soft about this brother except his songs to mama and his empress. The break out hits are clearly Beautiful Lady & Ethiopia Awaits. Ready Your Mind, Dog Nyammings, Running, Mama Love, Open Your Ears, All Over You and Sunshine Glory are soon to be classics. This artist stands alone. It is wonderful to see the inclusion of Sizzla on the Sufferation track but it does not really add or take away from the album. Sizzla is an always welcome surprise. Straight out of Guyana to Jamaica and to the world, Blacks music continue to mature and strengthen the movement. He leads the pack along with Tarrus Riley, Jah Cure, Gyptian, Richie Spice & Buju Banton. Highly recommended.
Natural Black AKA Mortima Hardly By T Boots Harris
Allow me to introduce Mortima Duke Softly popularly known throughout the music fraternity as ‘Natural Black’ who is currently walking on the cutting edge of
Reggae, Dancehall and popular music in general. This acclaimed singer and songwriter delivers messages that highlights issues that impacts our everyday lives, and as a result he plays a crucial role in bringing about a new awareness through his heartfelt songs.
Songs such as ‘Running’, expresses the inner pains, joys and emotions which engulfs an artiste psyche and soul. “Stop running away from your problems,
You can’t hide from your pain, might as well you face them and things won’t be the same”. Truly an innovative song poised to revolutionize the mindset of those among us who feels alone frustrated, disenfranchised and politically betrayed.
Natural Black is a unique artiste and visionary who is poised to revolutionize ‘Dancehall’ music which in some instances has slipped into a state of unconsciousness.
Unfortunately the music has also undergone serious social, cultural and spiritual manipulations. ‘Dancehall’ continues to be presented by some D.J’s as an hardcore expression, which has drifted from its intended perspective that of being a positive influence, and a musical force that over the years has rocked main street artistes such as Buster Rhymes, the late Biggie Small whose mother is Jamaican.
Another song on the album that demands your attention is “Sunshine Glory” which is like a benediction to ‘Jah’ “We are the children of sunshine glory,
we are the children of the rock and the soil them a gwaan like sey them no know we
but you owe we all the while.’ Natural Black’s poetic messages and music over the last five years has anchored him firmly into the hearts and minds of conscious music lovers, at home and internationally.
A Guyanese by birth he made the journey to Jamaica in 1995 after being inspired by reggae icons such as Bob Marley, Jimmy Cliff, Hugh Roy and Dennis Brown to mention a few. Asked what attracted him to reggae music he said “ Reggae music have a thing about it that is different from any other music on earth. like life reggae music inspires and gives you the opportunity to express yourself fully.” Natural Black strongly believes that his unique brand of reggae can and will make a difference in regards to establishing strong Caribbean and international brotherhood, which in his opinion will bring about profound social, economic and political changes so passionately desired in these crucial times.
The album ‘Mortima Hardly’ refutes definition other than being relevant to the times, inspired and reflects a deep understanding of the principles of Rastafari.
Thought provoking tracks includes ‘Running’, Sunshine Glory, Sufferation, Mama Love, Who Selassie I Bless ‘Dog Nyamings’ and ‘Distance Yourself’ are among my personal favorites on this album. He says his music is intended to inspire everyone who comes in contact with it, ”If my songs moves my brothers and sisters towards a new consciousness, awareness, Up-liftment and righteous practices then I would consider myself extremely blessed.”

Great sound
I have no understanding of the previous review. He or she acts as if blacks are just now being set free. We are part of a family with the same God in the same nation and planet. All free must fight for the good of all people regardless of skin color.
