Customer Reviews
I must be missing something...
Looking at the song list and the list of dj's and producers that are represented here, I was ready for something that was going to blow my mind. Listening to the Z-Trip remix of "I Want You Back," I thought maybe it would do just that. But most of these are misses rather than hits. Now, don't get me wrong. Some of these mixes are great. Mocean Worker's take on "I Just Want to Celebrate" is perfection. He RESPECTS the original song and simply embellishes what it already had going for it. Same with the brilliant mix of "My World Is Empty Without You," DJ Jazzy Jeff's mix of "Papa Was A Rolling Stone," and the almost Fela Kuti-like remix of "War." I almost get the feeling though, on tracks like "Signed Sealed Delivered" and the awful remix of "Mary Jane," that they were remixed at the hands of folks who had no love for the originals. I mean, it's pretty audacious (and perplexing) to take a Stevie Wonder joint and destroy the groove the way this cat does. And the stripped down take of Mary Jane? Does this cat not realize that Rick James was the Godfather of Excess? I mean, this song should make you feel like you're getting a contact high through your headphones; not, "I think I'll take a nap till it's over." And, while not horrible, the slow-jam version of "Let's Get It On" turns a slinky chunk of bedroom funk and turns it into something that sounds like a weak version of Next's "Too Close." I guess what I'm saying is, I'll take the original versions any day of the week.

TRack 1 (the z trip remix) is awesome. Its a great beat.
Motown Remixed
This is a great collection of old Motown favorites that are remixed to perfection. The remixes gives you a new appreciation of the originals, while feeling the groove of the new beats. Great job, I'm looking for a volume 2.
