Old World Beauty

The Amadeus Quartet was one of the premier quartets immediately after World War II. They formed their quartet in 1947 and for the next three decades their performances were the standard that other quartets tried to obtain. Their performances of Mozart, Beethoven, Schubert, and Brahms were the composers that they were most at home with. They added Cecil Aronovitz as second violist to record these Quintets of Mozart. These quintets are major chamber works and require musicians with a great depth to play them. This the Amadeus Quartet plus Aronovitz do. All the quintets are played with finesse and polish. Although the recordings are old by today standards, the transfers are excellent and sound is quite acceptable.
