Album Review
In case you didn't catch the pun in the title of Jason Mraz's sophomore album, Mr. A-Z, it's a play on his last name, which is appropriate since it indicates his self-absorption. Mraz's loose-limbed, litely funky-jazzy pop recalls Dave Matthews and the singer/songwriters who followed in his wake; he loves to have his words cascade in moon/June rhymes and repetitions, and he loves to cram as many words into a phrase as possible. All of these traits were apparent on the debut, but with some success, Mraz is content to indulge himself on Mr. A-Z, constructing songs that ride a groove with the sole purpose of giving himself a place to sing about himself. For those who enjoyed his debut, this will be a delight.
Customer Reviews
Clueless
Hey iTunes, don't you know that if you want to sell an album, you should be posting reviews written by people who actually enjoyed the CD, or at the very least provide unbiased assessments of the music, musicianship, recording quality, etc.?! Why on earth would you provide a product with a disclaimer that tells consumers NOT to buy it? Just a thought...
Rocket Man
What happened to Rocket Man?
Rocket Man?!
I agree with the previous reviewer! What happened to "Rocket Man?" I heard Mraz's amazing acoustic cover on the radio and was going to buy this album just for that one song (having seen it listed as available as an "album-only" purchase)--it was that good. I get here and it's gone! Now I won't buy the album! Everyone loses!
