iTunes Review

The yellow and black bumblebee striped spandex may be gone, but Stryper’s love for the Lord, the ladies, and heavenly harmonies stand taller than teased hair. And fans who remember the band’s penchant for penning the perfect pop-metal ballad may be delightfully surprised to find Stryper’s eighth studio album their most rocking work yet. Murder By Pride> kickstarts with the Judas Priest-inspired “Eclipse of the Son” replete with glass shattering falsettos before “4 Leaf Clover” puts the pop back in pop-metal. And if their spot-on cover of Boston’s “Peace of Mind” sounds a little too perfect, don’t hold it against them — Stryper’s frontman Michael Sweet also happens to moonlight as a touring member of the classic rock pioneers. Since Stryper fans posted requests on the band’s forum for “…more guitars, more solos and more screams” the favorable frontman made a conscious effort to deliver hard, especially on the title-track which brims over with solos while Sweet is singing. Like most Stryper albums, this one succeeds at staying true to the band’s faith without proselytizing or coming off preachy.

The Triumphant Return of STRYPER...

Despite the tragic loss of Michael Sweet's wife Kyle recently, Stryper hold true to their spirit, vision, and message by coming back stronger-than-ever with their latest release, "Murder By Pride." Doing away with the Nu Metal style of their previous release, "Reborn," Stryper authoritatively returns to their roots with an explosive evolution of songwriting maturity and energy that delivers a more refined Stryper for 2009- all without sacrificing any of the core elements that made their signature "Stryper" sound that fans have grown to love throughout their career. From the thundering guitar riffs of "4 Leaf Clover" and "Murder By Pride" to the melodic and addicting grooves of "Love is Why" and "I Believe," Stryper once again show why their message of music and love is truly a force to be reckoned with- surely to draw fans both old and new alike. This album is an absolute must-have for all Stryper fans and truly a hidden treasure that hopefully gets discovered by rock fans in general- all just in time for summer. So, open that sunroof and crank up the stereo, baby. Stryper is back!

The sound we love!

Previous reviewer was complaining about Stryper not having a more modern sound and "changing with the times." They tried that with their last album. While it was a really good album, fans missed the harmonized guitars and vocals and the raw-edged guitars that put Stryper into the stratosphere in the 80s. Bands don't necessarily have to "change" to stay relevant. Every single AC/DC album sounds like the one before (I mean that in a good way!) and no one would dare say that AC/DC is irrelevant or have somehow lost their edge. This is a great Stryper album that marries the elements of old Stryper with the musical and personal maturity of each of the band's members. This is a must-have for every Stryper fan.

Simply Amazing!

This is easily one of the finest albums Styper has put out. To put out something this fantastic after 25 years only goes to show the talent God has given these guys! My top 5 are Murder by Pride, The Plan, 4 Leaf Clover, My Love & I Believe! Should be the come back album of the year for a christian band, maybe any band.

Years Active: '80s, '90s, '00s, '10s

Heavy metal has been associated with ol' Beelzebub ever since its inception, but a few acts took the opposite route and put their Christian beliefs in hard rocking songs, such as Stryper. Formed in Orange County, California, in 1983, the group was originally known as Roxx Regime, and consisted of singer/guitarist/main songwriter Michael Sweet, drummer Robert Sweet, lead guitarist Oz Fox, and bassist Timothy Gaines. It wasn't until the group changed its name to Stryper (which stood for "Salvation...
