Album Review

Farina's hypnotic dancefloor jazz creates a trippy background mix and an enjoyable look at some promising new artists for those willing to listen. That being said, it's not a seamless mix, containing some jarring transitions. Tracks that don't fade into the background are the international hit single by Blue Boy, "Remember Me," and Mr. Electric Triangle's "Bossa Nova." As much as he forges a unique, mellow sound, he is inescapably influenced by DJs like Gilles Peterson.

Mark Farina goes beyond what many electronica/acid jazz compilations offer... these grooves are for Real. Whether you're grooving at home in your kitchen, or making your living room the place to swing and vibe, these are not only accessible but irrepressably danceable and just plain... luscious. Sexy, even. They give plenty of room to instrumentally breathe, so that the vocal interludes are even more meaningful and sweet. Just give it a listen, and fall in loooove. :)

Best MJ Ever

I have been listening to Farina forever. Have the original MJ series on cassettes. It takes a lot to say it but this is my all time favorite. Perfect blend of dirt and euphoria, intelligently mixed, and an intro that will give you chills. Not too many true pioneers left but after listening to this one can't turn your back on the fact that Mark will always be one.
