Remember...

For all of those fans who poo poo on this album, keep in mind this was not intended as an album. These are compilations for a Parisian elevator at the French culture and communication ministry building. They put this together for the die hard fans. And I for one am well pleased. I think in that context these are brilliant and kudos to the French for having some sense of creativity. using this in their elevators.

Not really for us...

Hello all, just to say - I don't think this album was intended for all of us "The Books" fans. This album was created for a art and sound installation in Paris, and really was supposed to be played in an elevator. I mean all of the sound bits are in French, and how many of us speak French? They weren't trying to make another album full length like their previous ones. This album had an entirely different purpose. So remember that when you listen to it. If your new to The Books, listen to "Thought for Food." It's brilliant.

It's a shame, really. I am a huge, huge fan of The Books, but this album is a departure from their usual compositions. The opening track, Fralité, is quite promising but the album quickly breaks down to mostly spoken-word tracks. If you are looking for something more like their previous albums, you will not find it here.

Eventually, with some urging by Tom Steinle of Tomlab Records, they created what would become their debut record, Thought for Food, in 2002. Within a year, the Books relocated to Hot Springs, NC,...
