Album Review

Composed for a live theater/dance production about the tragic life of Austrian artist Egon Schiele, the gentle majesty of Music for Egon Schiele is a welcome change of pace for anyone bored with popular music forms, transporting the listener's mood entirely. Rachel's weaves a delicate but highly moving musical fabric that wraps itself around you tightly and pulls you in, simultaneously cradling you lovingly while haunting you with its melancholy ambiance. At times, the emotionally rich compositions work as effectively as any ballet score to tell the artist's tragic story. It is to pianist Rachel Grimes' credit that her pieces convey a stirring sense of drama and vivid imagery that perfectly match her subject. Highly recommended.

Amazing

This album is incredible. If you listen to bands like Mogwai, Radiohead, Sigur Ros, then you will certainly love this band. I just recently started listening to them, and i'm already hooked. This album, and all their others, are very interesting and keep your attention through out, as long as it doesn't relax you too much and you fall asleep. Also, this is an amazing album if you like classical or soundtrack music.

It sounds like you feel

This album presents in sound emotions you cannot explain with words. It is elegantly sad; stunninging beautiful. Listening to it will make you focus on yourself; it will inspire you.

Music for Egon Schiele

Rachel's (like always) understands the fluidity of their craft. Here, their dedication to Schiele mirrors the complexity of the painter's life, moving from playful string arrangements to morose piano easily and gently. This work is natural, not simplistic. You can feel movement and grace in Music for Egon Schiele. I'd say it's pretty close to perfect.

Although the avant-chamber trio Rachel's did not fully emerge until after the breakup of the seminal Louisville indie group Rodan, the trio's origins dated back to 1989, when guitarist and bassist Jason Noble first met violinist and Juilliard alumnus Christian Fredericksen on a Baltimore trolley. After the duo composed a 1991 Christmas tape dubbed "Rachel's Halo," they parted ways while Noble tenured in Rodan; upon reuniting in 1994, they formed Rachel's, named after Noble's Toyota Corolla and not...
