Music from the Firmament: A Space Ambient Collection

Space music with an epic neo-classic grandeur!

     

You would think, that an artist as good as Dave Luxton is, would at least garner one decent review. Although, I must admit; I too, am but a recent arrival, to the Luxton 'space-music' school. Initially, he 'drifts' a bit toward the 'New Age' side of the ambient-house, but with restrained class. His offerings remind me much of Glenn Smith's 'Galactic Anthems' CD's, but with slightly more depth. This particular CD, seems to be an amalgam of his past efforts, but not quite as good as his marvelous 'Portal' project. Yet, the body of his work stands upon it's own merit alongside artists like: Jonn Serrie, Max Corbacho, Spacecraft, Asmodelle, and Michael Stearns. At times, I'm stunned by the compositional ability of Mr. Luxton. He should being doing scores for major motion pictures and television specials. "Music from the Firmament" is a good representation of Dave Luxton's approach to electronic-driven music. His stuff conjures up the dim past, impossible panoramas, and fantastic scenarios. Recommended.
