iTunes Review
A world-class jazz coalition based in the Bay Area, the SFJAZZ Collective features eight members from around the globe who’ve played and recorded together since 2004. Each season, they perform and release collections that mix their original compositions with works from established masters like Coltrane, Monk, Wayne Shorter, and Ornette Coleman, among others. On this latest collection, they explore music of the iconic Stevie Wonder, with unique takes on much-loved classics like "Sir Duke," "My Cherie Amore," "Superstition," and more. Recorded in New York City during 2011, it's a top-quality mix of familiar favorites and brand new original pieces, performed by top-flight musicians (on alto, tenor, trumpet, trombone, piano, bass, drums, and vibraphone) who consistently impress with exquisite arrangements and razor-sharp chops. Don't believe the doomsday haters who think new jazz is dead; in the Collective’s skilled hands and horns, it's alive and well.

Killer Album! The Collective delivers again
The 2011 version of the SF Jazz Collective is in my humble opinion probably the highest concentration of younger jazz talent that you'll find anywhere. The lineup is made up of alto sax-Miguel Zeneon,Mark Turner: tenor sax, Avishai Cohen: Trumpet, Robin Eubanks: Trombone, Edward Simone: Piano, Stefon Harris: vibes, Matt Penman: acoustic bass & Eric Harland on drums. These guys all lead their own groups & are fantastic composers of modern jazz. This album is great from start to finish but takes your full attention to really appreciate what's going on. I would have liked to hear more tunes from Stevie's Inner Visions album like "Too High" or "Living For The City". Superstition is here of coarse with a fresh arrangement that's anything but predictable. "Race Babbling" is a medley that morphs into Contusion from "Songs In The Key of Life". Also for your money you get the bands awesome original compositions. Also if you like this check out the collective's previous releases like 2010s Music of Horace Silver or 2008s Music by Wayne Shorter.
