Album Review

Raphael's extremely popular Music to Disappear In introduced his signature blend of romantic piano, angelic vocals and synths and exotic world music. The album's first four pieces focus on the ethereal side of his music: "Disappearing Into You" features piano, strings, and a soft, mixed chorus, while the choir and synthesizers of "In Paradiso" rework Faure's "In Paradisum" for the 21st century.

Music to Disappear In's last four pieces become more earthy and sensuous, incorporating hand drums, bamboo flutes, harps and gypsy violins into trance dances like "Serpent." Sublime romance and earthy rhythms make the album's eight compositions truly unique.

The Greatest "Chill Out" Album of all Time

I have bought hundreds of albums and CD's in my lifetime, but this is still my all-time favorite. "Spirit Guides" is the best song, but "Disappearing Into You" is a close second. If you like calming music that puts you in another world--this CD is for you.

Incredible!

I owned this album on cassette back in the old days and I played it to death! I always wanted to fall asleep to it, but I'd have to wake up and flip the tape! What a buzz kill! I sprung up in my bed tonight thinking of this album and as I'm wont to do with my old and missing tapes/vinyl, to see if I could get it on iTunes. There it was! If you like old school ethereal records, you must get it. 7 out of 9 of these tracks are amazing! The other two are very good as well. I also owned Raphael's sophomore "Music To Disappear In II" and it's also very good. You wouldn't be wasting your money on it, but number 1 is his magnum opus. It is a recording no home should be without. It's truly magical. I'm looping it tonight and I will finally be able to fall asleep with it after all these years! Thank you Raphael and iTunes!

Simply Superb

I used to play this album and rock our son to sleep to the music, it is magic. A wonderful compilation of peaceful soothing tracks, that can simply put you in a peaceful relaxed state of body, mind and spirit. Excellence is an understatement.

Biography

Born: 1948 in Tulsa, OK

Genre: New Age

Years Active: '90s, '00s, '10s

Raised by Benedictine nuns in Tulsa, Oklahoma, Raphael learned classical music and Gregorian chants during his solitary childhood. From the age of 13, he felt a strong connection to baroque music, particularly the works of Antonio Vivaldi, the 18th-century violinist and composer who was himself a Catholic monk. In reaction to his strict upbringing, however, Raphael plunged wholeheartedly into the late-'60s San Francisco scene. Yet even as he explored rock & roll and tribal music, he never lost...
