Album Review
Picking up where 1998's Phantom Power release left off, charming Canadian fivesome the Tragically Hip continue with their signature infectious tunes on their eighth studio album Music @ Work. Sensible songsmith and frontman Gordon Downie is classic in hitting upon notable issues and figures, and cites verses from John Cage on the temperamental track "Tiger the Lion." "The Bastard" and "Freak Turbulence" are both intimidating in the fact that the band does not let go emotionally or physically when churning out smashing percussion drives and swirling guitar riffs. "Toronto #4" is a little wispy. Perhaps that's why the Tragically Hip can make it playing arenas. Only attitude can get you that far. Look at U2 and R.E.M.

The Greatest band of all time!
The Hip are not like other bands you may have heard and called good. They don't write and sing songs that are like other bands' songs. They infuse their music with a meaning and literacy and sense of history that you really don't find anywhere else. And yet, they're songs that you can't help but listen to over and over and over on long road trips. I did just such a thing recently on a trip from Seattle to Boise and back, playing "Lake Fever" countless times on the 1100 mile journey. It's worth spending the money for the whole album, just to see what other joys they can bring you from an undiscovered gem that you may have heard before, but never really noticed the first 20 times you listened. This is a band that grows on you slowly, until they take over your entire consciousness without you even realizing that it has happened.

The Hip's intellectual lyrics and catchy rhythm's grap you and take you for a ride...Not their best album but still pretty good
