Album Review

Smashing together the macabre intensity of death metal with the chugging, technical gymnastics of metalcore, Utah’s Chelsea Grin brutalize listeners with their punishing sophomore effort, My Damnation. A whirlwind of searing riffs and anguished vocals punctuated by pummeling breakdowns, the album attacks the listener with a relentless deathcore barrage. And though the separate parts that make up these songs are powerful on their own, the contrast between the suffocating, rapid-fire guitar blasts and the lurching breakdowns creates a kind of cathartic roller coaster, providing visceral release around every twist and turn of the songs with minimal time to gather yourself up before the next song begins. In terms of innovation, Chelsea Grin aren’t pushing the boundaries of the genre into any bold new territories, but what they do deliver is a very solid collection of face-smashing songs that will provide plenty of fuel for the mosh pit carnage that’s sure to arise after repeated listenings of My Damnation.

ughhh more of the same

why do you need 3 guitarists to play repeated break downs and chug chug riffs?

Oceano??

Chelsea Grin is as angry as ever with My Damnation, but i cant help feel like im listening to an Oceano record. The two bands are in the same genre I get that, but there definitely was a distinction between the two in the past...not so much anymore.
Regardless, I still am digging this album. its unforgivingly brutal...only allowing 1:18 seconds of breathing room on 'Kharon' before pummeling your body with ruthless guitar riffs and gut-wrenching screams from Alex Koehler.
My Damnation is a solid record from a solid band..and i'll be happy with it until they're next release...but, I do hope the next album brings back a little bit of 'Desolation of Eden' ...combine that album with My Damnation and that might just be the best deathcore album ever written!

Ehhh.

His voice changed way too much. Its not great at all. Desolation of Eden is where its at.
