iTunes Review

Discovered by Nickelback's Chad Kroeger, it should come as no surprise that My Darkest Days' self-titled debut album echoes much of Nickelback's post-grunge rock-power contrasted with the kind of glossy Hot Topic emo-pop hooks reminiscent of Fall Out Boy. But there's also a hint of White Zombie's knack for writing decadent nightlife anthems; right from the get-go the opening song "Move Your Body" pumps and grinds under a highly polished, radio-ready production. Following that, Zakk Wylde lends some of his sinister-sounding six-string prowess to "Porn Star Dancing," giving the serpentine song more wah- wah pedal than the sum of the '60s. The Exclusive Edition features a remix of this tune with guest appearances by Kroeger and Ludacris. The melodramatic "Every Lie" reveals a fondness for '80s New Jersey pop-metal like Bon Jovi and Trixter — it's loaded with barbed hooks and a cheesy narrative making for an instant guilty pleasure. Of course no modern-day rock band would be complete without high-school make-out ballads and My Darkest Days is abundant with them — "Like Nobody Else" being the album's standout serenade.

Saw them live...wasn't impressed

I saw these guys open for Sick Puppies a couple months ago..they were nobodys...I think it's crap that these guys will get famous for sleezy rock anthems (Porn Star Dancing) like so so many other rock bands before them. As for their performance, I have to say that his vocals were okay, but everything else about the band is forgettable. My Darkest Days will be known as the band that sang Pornstar Dancing. If they somehow manage to get another hit after that, I will take back what I've said about them.

AMAZING

I've been waiting for this album for five years now, and it's even better than I'd hoped. All of the MDD originals plus some catchy new ones, definitely worth getting. These guys are gonna be huge. :)

A little of others

My Darkest Days, is a little rock band that is more than meets the eye. The lead singer helped write some of Three Days Grace songs. And the cd was produced by Nickelback. Luckily for this band, they take the good from both those bands and make it their own. Such as the type of sound and lyrics. In a way this band is a mix of both of those and a few other rock bands. For me to listen to a whole album again and again is rare, and for me this one did it, I just can't stop. Most of the tracks are catchy and fun, while maybe one or another can be skipped most 90% of it you will want to listen to again and again. This band had some what of a lot of hype, and luckily for them it payed off and what should have been a failur turned to be a rare, true winner.

Years Active: '00s, '10s

Hard-hitting Canadian post-grunge outfit My Darkest Days formed in the mid-2000s around the talents of singer/songwriter/guitarist Matt Walst, bass player Brendan McMillan, drummer Doug Oliver, and guitarist Sal Costa. Hailing from the small town of Norwood, Ontario, Walst, whose older brother Brad plays bass for fellow countryman Three Days Grace, counts Nirvana, A Perfect Circle, and Nickelback as influences. Coincidentally, Nickelback frontman Chad Kroeger signed the group to his own 604 Records...
