Yes, they re-recorded the vocals...
Unfortunately, we've become so accustomed to remixes by Lil Jon (or Scott Storch - don't get me started) that are simply the original vocals over a slightly more "crunktified" beat... which is why everyone seems to describe this song as "wierd" or "bizzare." However, this song really shines as a fully reworked remix. The only parts of the song that I feel re-recorded badly are (1) the parts where the boys say "She's got me spendin'" because the choppy, somewhat hip-hoperetic way they say this line just really is less disirable, musically, than the melodic flow of the line in the original version of the song. (2) Whatever the hell they did to the "I met a girl, down at the disco" section... just was a poor judgement call. They could have reworked it in a new way and had it be successfull... but omitting large parts of the lyrics and deciding to make it a little more chant-y than rap-y just wasn't the right choice, I feel. While these two parts of the song can be annoying, and the entire thing can be difficult to get used to (since we've all played out the original version so long that "the way it's supposed to sound" is stuck in our heads), it's really worth the effort it takes to like it as much as it's worth liking. Give it a chance, it's Lil Jon and Black Eyed Peas for cryin' out loud.
Not as Good as Original
The original song is genious with great beat, great flow and great lyrics. The remix is sort of strange with the odd beat and backround music that sounds aliens from Mars invading Earth. Still buy though, My Humps was the greatest song of '05!
Different But Still Fly!
Seriously why is everybody hating on B.E.P.! The original to this song plays nonstop on the radio, and just sounds awesome. This remix version sounds just as good, especially since it was made by Lil Jon! Sometimes it's just better when things are made different, and it's sad that not everybody has realized that yet!
