I love Rob Crow!
He is an incredible artist. The best track is Some Things, which I listed to on myspace and fell in love with. Also Kill All the Humans is a great track to. Reminds me of Bender from Futurama. Haha, o, sorry. The only problem with this CD, for me, is the first track-Never Alone and also Jedi Outcast. Never Alone sounds like a boy band to me--sorry Rob. Jedi Outcast is hard. Don't get me wrong, I like hard ever once in a while, what girl doesnt? But this song just doesn't belong in this album. So, I just skip past those two songs. I love the CD though. I think I may reburn it without those two tracks.
Fixation on Summer
This album has all the musical stylings of Pinback because of Rob Crow, but it offers something new and different. A Iittle more acoustic, a little more bouncy. I feel lame that I didn't know about this album back in 01' when it was released. It's one of those albums where upon first listen you find a song that you can't stop listening to, like Iocane, and with every listen different songs on the album turn into your favorites. You soon find yourself skipping all over the album from beginning to end. Helicopter, Over the Summer, When You Lie, and A Subtle Kiss are excellent. His constant referral to summer is what makes this album so great. It makes you want to grab a Stella, put up the hammock, and take a snooze.
Rob Crow is a musical genius
Switching fluidly from mechanical death metal type tracks (about Star Wars games nontheless) to soft more Pinback-esque acoustics takes skill. Skill which Rob Crow has... not something to be said about most musicians. Get this and some Pinback... I recommend Summer In Abbadon.
