Album Review

Quiet Prayers is Bryan Duncan's installment in the My Utmost for His Highest series and it ranks as one of the best, not only in the series but also in his catalog. Most of the album consists of covers of contemporary Christian songs, but there are also a couple of originals, like "When I Turn to You," thrown in for good measure. No matter who wrote the song, Duncan delivers it convincingly and his smooth, country-tinged mainstream pop style is appealingly melodic on every cut on the record.

Square peg rammed into a round hole.

I have been a longtime fan of Bryan Duncan because of his unique sound and energy that make him stand out from the rest. I don't know whose idea this project was, but this falls far short of Bryan's potential as well as what we've come to expect from him. Any artist could have done this. I can buy A LOT of albums that sound like this one. I was really hoping this would be a much needed fresh dose of Duncan. This is a square peg rammed into a round hole. Bryan, be yourself! Everyone else is taken!
