Customer Reviews

Out of left field, but pitch perfect

If this isn't already your mantra for handling the opinion rolodex that is the internet, I recommend you consider making it so: let the haters hate. Whether or not the quality of the song will reflect the one-star reviews they'll hurl at this tune out of anger, they are justified in at least that anger. This really isn't the My Chemical Romance they fell in love with.

In fact, you don't need to be a die hard or even a fan to know emo-archetype lyrics and gothic imagery are MCR's bread and butter. And here they've cleaved all of it away, filling in the Tim-Burton-shaped holes with a more-organic Jet Set Radio punky flair and glossed it over with a Tarantino in Death Proof mode noir finish. Their music's formerly blood-soaked lyrical flourishes are now the stuff of classic punk imagery, but Gerard belts it like he means it like never before, while the band's once-emo sound walks a tightrope between poppy Offspring and PO'ed Green Day. If there's just one thing this band has in common with the one that made The Black Parade, it's the theatric ability to pull this heady concept off with conviction to spare. One watch of the trailer for the upcoming album displaying the band having a genuine blast portraying the characters in this world they've made will dispel the last doubt that this isn't the direction they should be headed in.

And those spurned die-hards may claim this is all a move towards more universally accepted pop-punk and an abandonment of their older horror-niche records, and maybe that's true. But there's two ways to make a bid for the mainstream: A) to assimilate, trend-hop, and accrue as many Billboard hits and royalty checks as possible, or B) full steam ahead and leave rock history peppered with as many of your knuckle-prints as possible before you're hauled away swinging. If you don't know which one MCR is aiming for, you might not know the band as well as you think.

MCR!!!

MCR's Back!!!

I love the song. I can always count on MCR to remain loyal to themselves, and not to fall under and go commericial. A great song, as always. Keep it real, MCR.

Biography

Formed: 2001 in Newark, NJ

Genre: Alternative

Years Active: '00s, '10s

With their emo-punk songwriting, theatrical vocals, and neo-goth appearance, My Chemical Romance rose from the East coast underground to the forefront of modern rock during the early 2000s. In keeping with the tragic element of the group's best-known singles — including "Helena," "I'm Not OK (I Promise)," and "Welcome to the Black Parade" — My Chemical Romance has roots in catastrophe, as frontman Gerard Way decided to form the band after watching the World Trade Center collapse on September...
