Some fine music!
Reflective, heartfelt and personal. For me, these words best describe Marc's new CD. I've either been on a similar journey or I'm able to easily put myself in Marc's shoes. I was surprised at how many memories popped into my head while listening to these songs. I enjoyed the CD from start to finish. I REALLY like Marc's voice and his vocal technique. His tone and pronunciations do something to my brain. It feels good! Then there is Marc's guitar playing. He plays the guitar well and the tones are rich and earthy. Marc's voice and guitar playing...together...is a winner for me! A great combination!
Compulsively listenable folk fusion
A lush blend of jazz, bluegrass, folk and Appalachian styles frame Marc Silver's introspective lyrics in this fourth release from the Philadelphia singer-songwriter. At turns tender, swaggering, and pensive, Silver's lyrics stand out- opening track "Oh My God" sets an intimate, confessional tone and reveals a knack for drawing beauty from ordinary moments that carries throughout the album. The Stonethrowers' bright, intuitive accompaniments on banjo, harmonica and slide guitar wind through Silver's hooky melodies, tying together strands of blues, bluegrass, and touch of honky-tonk on the stomping "Devil's Dust". Silver's at his best on meditative, bittersweet tunes like the title track and "For Your Soldier," where his sincere delivery packs an emotional punch.
