An even better souvenir of the movie Napoleon Dynamite than a "Vote for Pedro" T-shirt, this soundtrack album does a good job of recreating the friendly indie-cult comedy aurally. Laden with sound bites of inimitable movie dialogue and pieces of John Swihart's score, the album also offers the movie's smart choice of pop tunes. The '80s synth-pop tracks (Alphaville's "Forever Young," Yaz's "Only You," " When in Rome's "The Promise") underline Napoleon's yearning qualities while avoiding period clichŽs, and fans will undoubtedly want to own the backdrop to their hero's dance triumph, Jamiroquai's "Canned Heat." Some will want this for the dialogue snippets alone - and lead actor Jon Heder is as hilariously deadpan here as he is onscreen - but the whole album is a welcome example of how to construct a soundtrack that nicely complements the movie paired with.

I would buy this album, BUT...

I'm a big fan of the Napoleo Dynamite movie, and as Napoleon would say it does have some "righteous" songs, but there are some songs/sound clips that I really liked in the movie that are just not here and thus aren't incentive enough for me to buy this album. For example: 1) The opening theme song (when they are doing the credits with the names written in food) 2) Clip(s) from "Rex Kwon Do" scene 3) Clips where Napoleon is feeding Tina the llama 4) Any clip with Uncle Rico (e.g., "I bet I could throw a football over them mountains") 5) "Is Trischa here?" ... "That's my ride." clip Although the "sweet"-ly included surprise ending may be worth it for the entire album-only purchase, I think I'll just put my DVD in whenever I want to hear that!

Pass this Album if you are buying it for The Promise

I bought the whole soundtrack for the song The Promise. The Promise is an excellent song but it is mixed with Suprise Alternate Ending dialog from the movie which ruins the song. Go out and buy the CD that has the song without the soundtrack.
