This Nation of Heat EP is some of the best music I've heard in a long time. Honestly, I don't know anything about Joe Pug. I only know that a friend called me up and told me to buy this EP. He said not to listen to it, not to sample it, not to buy single songs. Just buy it. So I did, and I've been listening to it non-stop ever since. I was going to try to write a review of this EP describing the music, but I think it speaks for itself. Give it a listen. I can't wait for Mr. Pug to produce more.

A developing talent

Excellent music, no doubt about it. Pug is talented, and I can't say anything that hasn't been said already. But I can't help but compare him to Bob Dylan, which isn't necessarily bad, but it's holding back the music a little. I think that it's hard to say that he doesn't borrow a lot in his delivery and lyrical style (Compare "Nobody's Man" to "Lonesome Death of Hattie Carroll") as opposed to just being "influenced by" him. Of course they said the same thing about Dylan and Woody Guthrie. Like Dylan, though, Pug has a voice of his own, and I think it will develop the more develops his own style.

Superb Thinker

Joe Pug is one of those young artists that you realize you'll be seeing a lot of in the coming years. I saw him perform in Chicago and his wit and brilliance in lyrics is matched only by his signature singing style and simplistic guitar-harmonica playing. He is truly a pioneer in the folk rock / americana genre.

A singer/songwriter whose songs offer an updated version of the country-folk archetypes that Bob Dylan and John Prine made famous, Joe Pug was born and raised in Maryland, and began playing guitar when he was in grade school. Pug formed his first band on a dare from his sixth-grade science teacher, who didn't believe Pug and his friends would be able to pull something together in time to appear at a school dance.
