Album Review

With disc number four, the Swedish band strays from its Scandinavian black metal roots and, consciously or not, managed to tap into the nu-metal breed somewhat. Don't believe it? Compare the title track to anything that Static-X has ever released. The keyboards have moved from lush and atmospheric to punchy and pointed for the most part, and even the vocals of Bjorn Strid are less abrasive overall and alternate between heavy and serene. Old fans might have a difficult time adjusting to Natural Born Chaos, but it's an impressive disc in that it combines two seemingly disparate styles seamlessly into a unique listening experience. ~ Brian O'Neill, Rovi

Customer Reviews

Excellent Metal Album

Not even a single "filler" song. All of them are excellent. If you are new to heavier music and Soilwork, this is a good album to start. Not super extreme but never light. Crunching distorted guitars, banging drums and a great singer. EXCELLENT STUFF!

A Predator's Portrait 2

Natural Born Chaos is very good and by many hardcore fans as their best album. I think it is just the same as A Predator's Portrait by having a very similar sound, but songs like Follow The Hollow and As We Speak are classic melodic death metal anthems.

In Flames??

Are these guys related to In Flames? I had to do a double take, I thought I accidentally downloaded "Soundtrack to Your Escape". This is CD is IDENTICAL in sound to In Flames (Who also hail from Sweden...yah). Same rythms, same drums and IDENTICAL voices...I mean IDENTICAL! And these guys are (never thought I would say this) ummm...better than In Flames? Trust me..In Flames ROCKS...but these guys do it better. The only thing I don't like are the keyboards! Anyway, even with the keyboards..this cd is freakin SWEET! Buy it! You will not regret it...and then go buy "Sworn to a Great Divide" That one is easily hands down the metalcore album of the century! Sweet band...glad I introduced myself to them!!

The Swedish metal sextet Soilwork formed in early 1997, fusing the country's signature ultra-heavy death metal sound with the power-groove riffs of late-'70s, early-'80s British and European metal. Vocalist Bjorn "Speed" Strid, guitarists Peter Wiches and Ola Frenning, and drummer Henry Ranta were all veterans of the Swedish scene by the time they recorded their first demo, In Dreams We Fall into the Eternal, in 1997; bassist Ola Flink became a permanent member afterward, as did keyboardist Carlos...
