A Gem
This is one of those albums that isn't nearly justified with a 30-second preview. Also, this is another one of those bands that is only given a fraction of credit with a single album. This is the sixth (or seventh, not really sure) from these guys, and let me tell you they do some great work. They are from Little Rock, AR, and, connotations aside, their earlier music is pure rock. Near and Dear shows thier more progressive side, which proves thier artistic ability as well as thier endeavor to improve on thier own talents. Overall, this album gets better every time you listen to it. Especially the songs 'Ordinary People' and 'Exit Strategy.' They stick in your head like nothing else. If you like solid beats and pure rock guitair with a tinge of electronica, this is your ticket. Don't miss out.
Near and Very Dear
It's hard to pin down one album as Ho-Hum's finest hour, but this one is mighty close. The only questionable track on this one is "Ladyboy," which is an expertly produced but slightly baffling ballad. The rest of the songs combine the 80's to 90's sound that these guys have been developing since -Massacre- (1999). Songs like "Exit Strategy," "Land Ho," and "I'm-A-Waking-Up" are thrilling rock gems, stuffed with catchy hooks and layers of sound. They mix it up with "Handheld," which is a chunky, swaggering number; and "Corny," which is hard to describe but will have you singing along. The number one hit single off this one, though, is "Ordinary People," which, if there were any justice in the pop music universe, would have launched this album up the charts. Check out any of the songs I list here, and if you like them, you will dig into this release with a big, sloppy spoon.
Nearer and Dearer
Absolutely fantastic album by a fantastic band. If you are a registered voter in Arkansas, don't forget to vote for Rod in the upcoming election!!! Keep up the good work guys!
