Collector's Item

Neutronica was recorded between "Donovan" and "Love Is Only a Feeling" and originally released only in Germany. Donovan spent years on an anti-nuke tour of Europe, and several of the songs included here allude to the general eco-theme. The musical style ranges from his familiar romantic folk to early-80's synth-folk-pop. Lyrically it's not bad at all, but the aural impact is that of someone trying to hard to be both timely and relevant. The track "No Hunger" becomes his "Imagine." Pity iTunes used the basic album and not the bonus tracks version, which included the wonderful "No Man's Land" (by Eric Bogle).

For Donovan fans, it's quite collectible. For others, you might want to sample the previews and harvest the nuggets like "Only to Be Expected," "No Hunger" and "Heights of Alma."
