Album Review

As a title, New Beginning may be something of an overstatement — after all, it is only SWV's second album. Nevertheless, the group does take a different approach on New Beginning, backing away from the New Jack grooves that dominated their debut and exploring a more direct, organic R&B vibe. They haven't left hip-hop behind, but they've added a new array of sonic textures that gives their music added depth. But the true strength of New Beginning is the vocal capabilities of SWV — they can handle smooth soul like "Don't Waste Your Time" as easily as the funk of "Whatcha Need." There may be a couple of weak spots on the album, but the trio's considerable talents make those moments easy to forgive.

Incredible, but missing a track!

Excellent, excellent, EXCELLENT album!! Hardly any of these songs are fillers, even the interludes. Though the album slows wayyy down about halfway through, if you take a good listen the vocal arrangements get even better, and the songs are just incredibly infectious...which brings me to the absence of 'When this feeling', my favorite track on the album!!! Why is it not on here?? Probably the only track I don't care for is 'It's All About You', but even then it's still a good song. Before Hip-Hop/R&B were all about image/autotone/saying the word 'shorty' in a song, you had talent like SWV. Such a tragedy there aren't more groups around like this today. Thanks for this amazing CD ladies ^^

1996 forever

A great sophmore CD from SWV in urban music 1996 was a great time for urban acts such as SWV they cameback more mature with great body of work. New Beginning showed the growth of the girls from their debut it about time. Stand out tracks fine time, When this feeling, Use your heart (early neptunes: Pharrell and Chad) and my absolute fav What its gonna be. Overall great music, lyrics on point and great instrumentation.

Great album, missing tracks (on i-tunes)

I really love this album i just hate the fact that numbers 4 and 13 are missing. My favorite song on the whole album is "when this feeling". Otherwise this is a great album i just wouldnt recommend buying it on here. Guess I'll have to go to the store to buy it or order it offline on another website.

With their 1992 debut, It's About Time, the all-female new jack swing trio SWV scored a string of Top Ten R&B hits that established them as one of the most popular urban R&B groups of the '90s. SWV (their name is an acronym for Sisters with Voices) is comprised of three school friends: Coko (born Cheryl Gamble), Taj (born Tamara Johnson), and Lelee (born Leanne Lyons). All three vocalists sang in church as children, which is where they learned how to harmonize. A demo tape the group assembled...
