Glad LP is back but man I really wish they were back...
Dont get me wrong this song can grow on me, but... I hate to say it but the old LP who produced Hybrid Theory, Reanimation and even Meteora is gone forever. : ( No more Chester Screams and Mike Raps. Its over... so die hard LP fans like myself will just have to adapt and appreciate this new sound they have and hope it grows on us. However to this day when I listen to minutes to midnight, it doesnt get me pumped up and it doesnt give me goosebumps like their previous albums. Just like this new single. Its good but nothing about it says Linkin Park to me. Just another band. Mike isnt even on the track which is horrible because the guy is nothing short of amazing. It just lacks the signature LP sound. Mr. Hanh doesnt even scratch on any of their new songs. LP if you read this by any chance please and Im beggin you please bring back the old sound. How about a 15 track album with 8 songs with the old sound, 7 with the new sound and one remix with Mr. Hahn and Mike rapping with Chester screaming. Man that would be awesome!!! And finally all the people who are giving this 5 stars, I know you are trying to defend and support your favorite band, (MINE TOO) but come on you all know this is nowhere near their top 20 songs and if you include live tracks and underground tracks then this wouldnt even make top 40 in my opinion. So please do not blow this track up with 5 star ratings cuz you all know it falls way short of that. No 1 star ratings either. 2-4 only!!!
Better than What I've Done but...
And there's the clincher. No doubt most coming here to download this are of two parties: the ones that missed the free stream on Linkin Park's main website, and those who loved it and are rushing now to buy it. The choice is yours, but I thought I might as well insert my thoughts on the song as I heard in the free stream. Yes, it is better than What I've Done. I'd go so far as to say it's better than anything that came out of the MTM sessions. However, from this song it's rather clear that the Linkin Park I knew and loved as a kid is gone for good. The sound is better than it was, but in essence it still resembles the more straightforward rock aesthetics of MTM. I'd go so far as to say it sounds like a post-punk band, a la The Killers. Call me crazy, but it's definitely there, especially in the drums. Don't get me wrong; I love this song as much as all the rest of you. I'd like to emphasize that I really think this song is lightyears beyond what came out of the MTM sessions. Also, I'm really excited for the new album; a concept album is a huge undertaking and I'm waiting with an open mind, as I really WANT to see Linkin Park pull this off. However, at this point, I can say I'm no longer a fan of Linkin Park, or at the very least I'm not at all a fan of what they've become. There's nothing wrong with a band's sound evolving; as a fan of Dream Theater, Jethro Tull, Rush, and Lostprophets, I'm rather accustomed to change. The issue here is Linkin Park pulled a full 180; they evolved too much, to the point that they're hardly the same band anymore. Even a gradual change could not have facilitated a change this dramatic. I'm not saying Linkin Park's sound shouldn't evolve or change; I'm well aware as all the rest of you that they'd said from the beginning that they would never allow their sound to be pigeonholed. It's just that this change doesn't make sense. I mean, how do you go from pumping drums and chugging guitars to bombastic ballads and riffs not unlike U2's? Maybe I'll get used to it some day, I dunno. But I just keep waiting for Linkin Park to release their real 3rd album: the one with Mr. Hahn's four-minute turntable instrumental, Mike Shinoda's rapping verses, and Chester's screaming choruses. Oh yeah, and Brad's killer riffs. I don't mind waiting a little longer.
NOTHING NEW
Linkin park's new single sounds just like any of the songs on their last album. Linkin park has drifted away from the sound that made me love them: a real good fusion of hip-hop, rock, and electronic. I want an album that will pump me up with a tiny dash of songs like these to change the pace. Hopefully, theyll go back to what made hybrid theory and meteora so awesome.
