iTunes Review

A New Hallelujah finds Christian music stalwart Michael W. Smith returning to the worship music mode that revitalized his career seven years earlier. Recorded live at Houston’s Lakewood Church, Smitty enlists a passel of rock musicians and a pair of choirs to offer previously recorded tunes along with some fresh material. From the drum-driven bombast of the intro to “Prepare Ye the Way” to the roof-shaking urgency of the closing number “The River Is Rising,” Smith doesn’t neglect his role as showman while leading the energized crowd in praise and reflection. Big is the operative word for the sound of passionate chant-along numbers like “Shout Unto God,” “Mighty to Save,” and the title tune. Third World music elements add sparkle to “When I Think of You,” featuring the African Children’s Choir. “I Surrender All” benefits from Coalo Zamorano’s Spanish vocal, while Israel Houghton lends gospel authority to “Help Is On the Way.” In the midst of all the soaring voices and driving rhythms, Smith conveys a folksy, surprisingly humble presence, especially on the intimately reverent “Grace.” A New Hallelujah documents his gifts at fusing music and ministry into a soul-stirring whole.

A New Hallelujah

A few quick words before my review. Michael W. didn't charge one cent for that concert! NOT ONE CENT. Calling Michael W. Smith, Don Moen isn't an insult, Don Moen is a great Worship leader. and in case anyone is wondering Michael W. wrote or co-wrote 8 of those 15 songs! Now to my review! With international flare and a cross-cultural cry to worship God, Michael has really upped the ante on the standard he set with Worship and Worship again. Michael W. knows how to raise the bar and this album is no different, so if you love Michael W's previous work you will undoubtedly feel blessed by A New Hallelujah. Thank you Michael, you work continues to encourage and bless peoples lives!

WOW

There is a special anointing on the life of Michael W. Smith. He really knows how to touch the heart of God. I pray that the Lord will continue to bless him and his family. Prayer: Father God continue to pour your word in his heart and give him the melody that will continue to glorify you and bless your people. Amen
