A true "tribute"
Admittedly, some tribute albums are nothing but an opportunity for an unknown band to rape a great song just to get on a release, but after buying this at midnight last night and already listening to it no less than 3 times, I gotta say that every one of these bands pays the utmost respect to the original Love And Rockets songs. It's obvious that all of the artists have been influenced by L&R in some way. Granted, L&R never reached the heights of some of their alt-rock peers, but there's little doubt that The Pixies, The Dandy Warhols and The Flaming Lips owe a great deal to the innovative L&R catalog. There's not a song on here that I would skip. A lot of care was put into this tribute, by both the bands and the producers. It's truly a labor of love... love and rockets.
Hell of a tribute record.
I have been a big Love and Rockets fan for quite a while and this is finally a tribute worth it's weight in salt. There are a lot of great bands who pay tribute to this great band and it shows. Blaqk Audio's "No New Tale to Tell" is an incredible cover that they made all their own. The Dandy's track is a good one, but the stars on this tribute are the smaller bands. Vex, Frankenstein 3000, Astra Heights and Sweethead all put in worthy efforts. The lads should be quite happy to see their work being paid tribute to in such a great way. I can't stop listening to the Better than Ezra track- I honestly thought those words would NEVER come out of my mouth.
WOW! Impressive/eclectic mix of credible artists covering an underrated band
I’m not much of a writer so I’ll keep it short. The love that these bands have for Love & Rockets really comes through. Standouts include Maynard (Tool/A Perfect Circle), Blaqk Audio, War Tapes and Frank Black (Pixies). There’s tons of deep, dark, trippy, luscious music here whether or not you like Love & Rockets or not. OH! Dandy Warhols and Flaming Lips too! This is one of those rare albums that REALLY works as a collection. And another odd thing: It works Sunday morning with coffee… or Saturday nigh party time. Like the band it honors, it’s strange and awesome. This is the first album that’s inspired me to write a review. Highly recommended.
