Customer Reviews
Well done
If you take the time to read what this ensemble is all about, these renderings make perfect sense. The performances are full of detail and urgency at a level not often heard these days. The Copland might seem a little too light footed at first, but quickly becomes quite compelling and wothwhile. However, for me anyway, the real jewel on this disk is the Unanswered Question by Charles Ives. This is absolutely the most riviting performace I have ever heard and I have heard more than I can count. I have been searching for many years for a performance of this work that seems to "get it right". At last, I have found it. Great work folks!
Eh, fairly well templared knights
Don't be scared of the new music programing, it's not earth shattering stuff but it is a pleasing enough program for most. The playing is passible although the Copland is a bit loose in the pocket and doesn't really have the gravatas of more learned renditions. Nothing too glaringly wrong with this disc but it's nothinging to get excited about. -Bz
