A "Real" piece of Historic Album Memorabilia - MUST HAVE!

This is an absolute classic collection of Van Morrison early work. Especially great are the studio intros and retake sessions. Be sure to compare the last version of Brown Eyed Girl, a never before released studio only cut. The extra mix sets are for the serious collector only, and mark the serious ability of an artist to outwit the music "business" and regain control of his expression. I would recommend this album in it's entirety, and if possible, get an signed copy from the small independent label which released it - Lost Gold Records, Ridgeway, South Carolina. I have one from the first release in 1999. A must have! if still available.

Van Keeps Singing About Being Ripped-Off...

Well here is the example of it in spades. These are good songs, but certainly not his best; except the classic song "Brown-Eyed Girl". This recording session has been released under different names about 11-12 times. One day I found 9 different releases of these sessions in the bins at Tower Records.

love it

The NY sessions are bluesy and raw, but the back up singers keep it classy. These are my favorite recordings of his because he sounds young, fresh and honest. The Back Room, Madame George, and T.B. Sheets are so energetic that I feel like I'm sitting in the studio with the band. Also, these sessions don't carry corny connotations of my parents' friends "getting down" to his more popular songs like Brown Eyed Girl and Moondance...'cause ya gotta admit, people, that gets old and this album doesn't.

Equal parts blue-eyed soul shouter and wild-eyed poet-sorcerer, Van Morrison is among popular music's true innovators, a restless seeker whose incantatory vocals and alchemical fusion of R&B, jazz, blues, and Celtic folk produced perhaps the most spiritually transcendent body of work in the rock & roll canon. Subject only to the whims of his own muse, his recordings cover extraordinary stylistic ground yet retain a consistency and purity virtually unmatched among his contemporaries, connected...
