Album Review
Sparrow's Greatest Hits collection from award-winning CCM/gospel act Newsboys builds on the premise of 2000's Shine...The Hits by adding tracks from Thrive, Adoration: The Worship Album, Devotion, He Reigns: The Worship Collection, and Go. Fan favorites like "Shine," "I'm Not Ashamed," "Entertaining Angels," and "Spirit Thing" are all here, as well as two new recordings, "I Fought the La..." and "Stay Strong."

The title of the first track says it all.
Newboys songs tend to fall into three types: fun, fast songs, worship songs, and slower, introspective songs. The first two types are well represented on this cd. The last, not at all. The boys had one of the greatest lyricists in Christian music (Steve Taylor) penning many of their songs, but much of his best work for them was not as popular as the wacky songs with the great hooks. This, I think, is the meaning of “I fought the la, and the la won”, where “la” stands for the la la la of their fluffier fare. In other words, the boys didn’t want to be defined by that type of song, but it seemed their fate nonetheless.
This cd, then, contains some wonderful songs, but misses some of their best. Turn Your Eyes on Jesus, Elle G, Breathe (benediction) and the like must be found elsewhere. The title “Greatest Hits” is only accurate if you understand “greatest” to mean “most popular”.

Being me, I usually hate all the stuff that my parents listen to, considering they usually just listen to oldies, but we all LOVE the Newsboys!! I grew up to these guys, (literally) and I just plain old love them! I went and saw their concert a few days ago and I had an amazing time! Yay!
