The Truth
Richie is the last of the Mohikans. Take a ride in the 'back in the day' machine and remember what hip hop is supposed to sound like. And stop telling me he makes his own beats cause that's not fair.
A serious throwback
A throwback to soulful, sample-based 90's rap albums. Influenced by the New York/New Jersey styles of Nas, Redman, DJ Premier and Sean Price, except that Night Train is an ode to San Francisco city life that's woven with cheap liquor, homelessness, and public transportation. Remember when albums weren't 22 tracks, littered with skits and throwaway songs? Richie Cunning does, and the result is a perfectly consistent, meticulously crafted work of art. These songs fit into a clear concept, but many of them easily stand out as singles of their own. As close as hip hop has come to Illmatic, Whut? Thee Album, or Resurrection in a long, long time.
