A Prog Feast For All Tastes!
Nightingales & Bombers,along with Solar Fire and The Roaring Silence represent the very best of Manfred Mann's Earth Band long and distinguished career."Spirits In The Night" is quite possibly the best song they've ever recorded.It is superior to The Boss's studio version(Apologies to Springsteen fans everywhere!)and much better than the re-worked and shortened version made later with Chris Thompson.Great guitar work and the female singers fit nicely here as well.As they do on the stirring rendition of "Visionary Mountain.""Time Is Right" again showcases Rogers' guitar and points out that the rhythm section of Patterson&Slade are no slouches either.The title track is haunting as well as quirky,as Mann sets the perfect mood."Fat Nelly" has an almost happy feel to it,which runs counter to the somber lyrics.All in all a stellar performance by a legendary and too often overlooked band.Buy this,prog fans!!
Manfred Mann's Earth Band - Nightingales & Bombers!
Manfred Mann's Earth Band's cd "Nightingales & Bombers" is an excellent album hands down... I downloaded this album off I - Tunes & for some strange reason the first song "Spirits In The Night" which happens to be one of the best songs on the album comes in mastered very low compared to the rest of the album which sounds great... anybody who samples this song will notice the difference between the first song "Spirits In The Night" & rest of the album straight away... What is up with that I - Tunes?
