A glimpse...
...into the lives and emotions of various people who were impacted not just by Hurricane Betsy but also by Katrina and the failure of the levee system. Don't be surprised if you are bopping along to a wonderful song and realize the lyrics are asking about selling drugs or finding dead bodies. It is unexplainable, just like New Orleans herself.

Nine Lives is a musical story of forty years in the history of the city of New Orleans, based on the New York Times Best selling book by Dan Baum.
It is the story of the lives of nine New Orleanians in the years between Hurricane Betsy and Hurricane Katrina but this is not the story of those two floods. It is the story of community. How our community celebrates us in our best moments and how when the system has failed us and hope seems lost that community is there to help you lift your head up and see tomorrow.
The record contains 39 songs and features performances by Tony Award Winner Michael Cerveris, starring on Broadway this Spring in Evita, as well as Wendell Pierce, Harry Shearer, Bryan Batt, Michelle Shocked, Shamarr Allen, Irma Thomas, Allen Toussait and a hundred more New Orleans musicians and singers.
Nine Lives has been performed as a staged reading/singing at Symphony Space Theater in NYC and has been written about repeatedly in Broadway World and Broadway Mania.
It has also been performed as a reading/singing in Washington DC and Los Angeles.
We have done six full performances in New Orleans with an 11 piece band and fifteen singers. There are more New Orleans shows planned for the future beginning this April 30th on the Monday between Jazz Fest as well as continuing plans to turn Nine Lives into theater that can be taken to Broadway. To that end a writer has begun work on a book for the musical that should be complete by this summer.
The journey of Nine Lives will be years not months as it continues to take root in concert form and as theater.
It tells the story of New Orleans and gives each person that hears or experiences it the chance to embrace the part of themselves that says "I am New Orleans."
