Album Review

Once you've cherished Blondie you never really go back, even if for half of your life you must cherish them out of forgiveness, or just plain heartfelt concern. Debbie Harry loves to make curious decisions about her music, and it's always important to listen to her work carefully and several times (while trying to keep her performance in John Waters' Hairspray either firmly in, or out, of your mind as you do). In the old days, Harry and her guys covered terrific old blues and trippy, backwater pieces, popped up and pretty, punkified, otherwise unremarkable rock tunes, and flat out treated us to a show, whether live or Memorex. No Exit is a gritty downtown incarnation that almost sounds like a cutting room castaway, filled with raw and abject moments and digressions that suggest an improvised, irrelevant feel. The talkative "Screaming Skin" is a lyrically confused, stream of consciousness piece that sounds as if it was written on a paper bag on the subway — and some people really like this stuff. But some of the instrumental tracks have the veneer of an afterthought, particularly in the percussion department. Miss Debbie is always at her rockin' finest when futzing with the blues (and country, really), which she does on most of the latter half of the disc like the consummate, crazy pro that she is. If nothing else, No Exit is a testament to authentic rock and roll durability, and, well, the abiding "wow" that is Debbie Harry.

the best new Blondie album to date !!!

the reviewer is on crack ... this album is so fresh sounding and it almost gives one the feeling Blondie was on a small vacation and jumped right back in the studio before any one could even miss them. This album is full of amazing tracks like the international smash hit "Maria" that gave Blondie the title as the only band in history to have a number one hit in three decades , not to mention the amazing dance pop should have been single "Forgive and Forget" , then we have the title track with Coolio which just blew me away its so hip hop and street smart you just have to love it , then we have "Nothing Is Real But The Girl" one of Blondie's best songs ever recorded and then the very 60's meets 2000 style "Out In The Street" and two of the best ballads ever recorded ever "Night Wind Sent " and "Double Take" not to mention the rest of the album. THis was a HUGE sucess entering the Billboard charts its first week at number 17 which for a band that was gone for almost 17 years is an amazing comeback ! "no Exit" is just what it was because Blondie really never left our hearts or ears and they will go down in history as the best and greatest band ever !!!

No Exit

My first listen of this album, believe or not,was when it was a cassette and I popped it in my car stereo one day cause I'd grown tired of the rest of my collection. My late husband was an accomplished lead guitarist and I always loved to hear his opinion of the music I listened to, he loved the LP too. And he was very talented, but my taste is pretty various. Alice Cooper, Tool, Chevelle, Anti-Flag, Pearl Jam, sometimes he found it hard to listen at first. Not after it grew on him, No Exit was even used by him and his band because he did know when he heard good music played and written by someone with talent. If the musicians played the same chords over and over, a.k.a. AC/DC, he couldn't see how they even sold records or even weren't 1 Hit wonders!

great album!

this album makes me feel in a movie of the 80-90`s most of the songs are really unique and beautiful debbie`s voice is still wonderful

Blondie was the most commercially successful band to emerge from the much-vaunted punk/new wave movement of the late '70s.
