iTunes Review
A lot of people seem genuinely concerned over whether Converge's music is hardcore punk, or metal, or screamo. But jeez, who cares, when it sounds this good? Like its rattier, artier compatriots the Blood Brothers, Converge collapses different elements of aggressive rock together in a way that's wholly intense and pummeling. The group’s sound is original enough to be compelling, and almost always excellent. Lyrically, this is the first Converge album to venture beyond the realm of romantic relationships. On the group's website, band members posted an explanation for the record's title, saying that today, "cowards outnumber the heroes, and the begging souls outweigh the calloused hands of the hardest of workers," adding that "the lack of passion is sickening, and the lust for complacency is poisonous," and boasting that "this album is the artistic antithesis of that sinking world; a thorn in the side of their beast." Such rhetoric would generally come off as pretentious at best. But No Heroes, perhaps Converge’s most fully realized album, is so uncompromisingly brutal, that statement reads more like a description than a boast.

Look, I'm an Ignorant Moron
Been a Converge fan since 1998. They never cease to amaze me. Never. For time and space sake I'm not going to include a huge spiel about Converge pre-2001. They threw a curve ball with their 2004, minimalist effort, You Fail Me. The record was hard to swallow after a grand opus like Jane Doe - but quickly sustained itself as a more conceptualized version of the band; taking leaps and bounds towards greater maturation. Losing Aaron Dalbec was a godsend (sorry Aaron). In hindsight, Jane Doe is the greatest departure from the "punk as f**k" nature that Converge retains. You Fail Me was a perfect launch to No Heroes which sees the band including epic amounts of discordant melody with the raw, unbridled brutality you should expect from Converge. No Heroes is simple but so cathartic that it requires multiple listens (much like You Fail Me) to understand its immense spectrum of punk rock. NO. THIS IS NOT A METAL ALBUM! THIS IS NOT A TRADITIONAL METAL BAND. If you listen to Children of Bodom, Soilwork, etc... then fine... this is probably not an album for you. Or maybe it is... Just don't be anticipating shredding solos or corny lyrics/vocals. Enjoy Converge as the end all, be all of raw, genre defying hardcore. No Heroes is a strong testament to this claim. 4 1/2 stars P.S. - Look, I'm a Winner, grow up.
Another masterpiece
First of all, every album that Converge has ever come out with since caring and killing is pure gold. Some prefer their older albums (pre-Jane Doe) which are good, but I prefer their newer stuff (new as in Jane Doe forward). Converge is just one of those bands that constantly reinvent themselves without selling out or losing their raw power. Each album is special in it's own way. Although this album can't quite compete with Jane Doe, it's definitely in the top 3 Converge albums. If you are a first time listener, get Jane Doe first, then You Fail Me (their most underrated album, then No Heroes. If you prefer a sound that leans more toward traditional hardcore then check out caring and killing, petitioning the empty skies, and when forever comes crashing. If you are more of a metalhead, poacher diaries would be the best fit for you.
i just crapped my pants.
holy hell! i just picked this album up and i cant believe how amazing it is. this is definately now on my top 5 list. its too hard to pick any particular song to praise because they are all so good! i personally dont even like listening to single songs because the album as a whole is so fantastic. if you are new to converge or even if you are already a fan this is a must have album!
