iTunes Review

While he may no longer be the undisputed King of the South, he continues to crank out his unique brand of trap music to fiending audiences around the world. Originally titled King Uncaged, No Mercy is his seventh solo album, and he's stated that it's the final chapter in a trilogy that includes T.I. vs T.I.P. and Paper Trail. Produced by platinum hitmakers like Kanye, the Neptunes, Jake One, and Lil C, its sound is bold, brash, and extremely slick all-around, ideally suited for heavy spins on the radio and in the club. Lyrically, he sounds off on growing up and changing his ways ("How Life Changed" and "Get Back Up"), but also drops the requisite jams about partying ("Poppin' Bottles") and freaky chicks ("Strip"). Arguably his most polished and pop-minded effort to date, it is also overflowing with high-profile features from Eminem, Drake, Christina Aguilera, Kid Cudi, Pharrell, Chris Brown, and many more.

T.I - No Mercy

I know... most of us, even loyal fans, are pretty pissed at T.I right about now. After just being released from jail and promising us King: Uncaged in summer, he delays and changed the album, and than gets sent back to jail! Even though he’s messed up a lot this year, you can’t deny that the King of the South has some talent! But nonetheless, can T.I make up for his mistakes with his music? Here is a track-by-track review.

Welcome to the World (ft. Kanye West & Kid Cudi)- 9.5/10 T.I starts up his album with a fierce track with fire from Kanye and a rather disappointing part from Kid Cudi…you hardly notice his appearance as he croons over the chorus. Still, a very solid opener with fierce lyrics.
How Life Changed (ft. Mitchelle’l & Scarface)- 9/10 A low-key track with a piano-organ beat and a gospel like chorus. Deep lines from both rappers and I especially like T.I’s storytelling.
Get Back Up (ft. Chris Brown)- 8/10 A smooth track and the albums first real single, this kinda feels like a failed comeback song, because it failed to catch on with fans. Leaning more towards pop, this is one of the weaker songs, though it is pretty catchy.
I Can’t Help It (ft. Rocko)- 9/10 Strong beat and angry lines, but the placement seems kind of off considering it followed from his apology anthem. Still, this is a classic T.I song.
That’s All She Wrote (ft. Eminem)- 10/10 This is my personal favorite track. Catchy chorus and nice verses, but I have to say Eminem steals the show. His final verse is one of the fastest I’ve heard and he overall overshadows T.I in this…sorry. This is bound to be a single.
No Mercy (ft. The-Dream)-10/10 There is a good reason that this is the title track…it is one of the most emotional songs on the album with a strong chorus and an insane beat. If you didn’t like this at first, keep listening it will grow on you, its one of my favorites, and is just intense.
Big Picture-9/10 An anthem of a song, T.I is sounding cocky and on top of the world no matter what comes in his path. No matter what he did, you have to give him props for his optimism even in the worst situations.
Strip (ft. Young Dro & Trey Songz)-7.5/10 A more commercial track, this will most likely got played at parties and clubs all over. Still, even though it’s a pretty fun song, I’m not a fan.
Salute- 7.5/10 T.I is demanding your respect, but I feel like this is one of the weaker songs to do so. Not very catchy and the beat is forgettable. Not a very strong track.
Amazing (ft. Pharrel)- 8.5/10 Pretty good flow from the two, but the chorus gets pretty annoying and is too repetitive. Still a solid track.
Everything on Me- 9/10 Very catchy beat and chorus. A pretty original song, especially because it’s a party record.
Poppin’ Bottles (ft. Drake)- 9.5/10 Though I do not really like him that much, I have to admit Drake brought his A game to this track. This song is straight up fire and is most likely to become a lead single with one of the best beats on the album…best party song on the album.
Lay Me Down (ft. Rico Love)-7/10 Most annoying beat on the album and very dull chorus. Very forgettable track…that’s all there is to say.
Castle Walls (ft. Christina Aguilera)-10/10 Very unexpected collab from these two. Some may think this track is more towards pop and though it may be true, that does not take away from the quality for the song. The chorus is both catchy and beautiful, the lyrics are some of the most emotional on the album about the price of fame and making mistakes, it is sure to be a hit.

Though he may have screwed up a lot this year, I would say that this album makes up for a lot, and overall this is one of the best rap albums of 2010. Though it may not get as much commercial success as 2008s Paper Trail, it may be a good thing because it shows T.I is much less mainstream than in his last album, but still shows a good mix of both mainstream and the original T.I that we fell in love with. I highly suggest this album especially with the bonus tracks that bring us a little King: Uncaged as well. See you in 11 months, T.I!

No Mercy for the King of the South

Just as T.I. begins his 11 month sentence, he leaves audiences with a perfect Christmas gift, No Mercy. This is undoubtedly T.I.'s greatest work. No Mercy is versatile, masterfully produced, and features collaborations with some of the greatest voices in the industry. From the brilliant guitar riff in All She Wrote to the beautiful yet gloomy verses on Castle Walls, No Mercy is absolutely fantastic. The beats are sick and the lyrics are thoughtful. It's a real shame that the judge on T.I.'s case had to be a draconian jerk. T.I. has been a faithful husband and active philanthropist, having raised money for the Katrina relief efforts, scholarships for single parent families, and Alzheimer's research. He recently talked a man out of jumping. It's sad to see such a talented artist and good person end up in prison. He deserves audiences' empathy as he makes it through this difficult time. No Mercy is not T.I.'s swan song. The King of the South will return to continue his his amazing career!

Biography

Born: September 25, 1980 in Atlanta, GA

Genre: Hip-Hop/Rap

Years Active: '00s, '10s

Once dubbed "the Jay-Z of the South" by Pharrell Williams, T.I. gradually came into his own and established himself as one of rap's most successful MCs during the early 2000s. Like Jay-Z, T.I. — born Clifford Harris in Atlanta, GA — carried a balance of smoothness and toughness, and although 2001's I'm Serious didn't shoot him out of the gate à la Reasonable Doubt, he consistently grew and launched a string of major hits with 2003's "24's." Throughout the six following years, T.I. maintained...
