Blown away

I can't believe nobody has commented on this amazing work yet. This is an exciting, innovative, moving and beautiful set of tunes that a young musical genius has put together. Channeling shades of Grisman and Fleck, Thile manages to make his own unique sound and beautiful compositions. At times raucous, at others introspective, it is hard to categorize this music simply as bluegrass. It has been fused with other sounds so skillfully that you have to listen many times to take it all in. Just a perfect CD in my opinion, and every tune flows perfectly from the one preceding it.

Best of the the Best

This album is nothing but some of the best Instrumentalists around (across all genres as well). So if you are into complex melodies coupled with melodies you cannot get out of your head, ingest this album. Yes, there are no words, but who needs words when you have beautifully crafted music that can take you on a journey better than any words could. There is so much to enjoy here . . . especially if you are a fan of Tolkien!

Amazinnnnnnn

One of the best bluegrass artists out there. Excellent stuff.

Genre: Country

Years Active: '90s, '00s, '10s

A new description of Chris Thile would be hard to come by, especially since all the good superlatives have already been used. They called him a child prodigy when he was 12 years old and making his first solo album, 1994's Leading Off..., and a virtuoso when he was 20 and putting out his third solo effort, 2001's Not All Who Wander Are Lost. On the heels of those descriptions came effusive adjectives for his talent with a mandolin, words like "brilliant," "bold," "utterly fantastic," and "staggering."...
