Hitting All the Right Notes

Wow! I never imagined I’d hear some of my pop favorites reinterpreted for strings with all the power and passion of the original versions. The key seems to be Mark Governor’s thoughtful, compelling arrangements coupled with the rich, evocative vocal performances of Kathy Fisher. The end result is part music, part performance art. I’m a fan of Kathy Fisher from her work with the band FISHER. I’ve also followed Mark Governor’s career as a songwriter, playwright and film composer. This CD seems to be the perfect pairing of their talents. For them, these songs are stories about people facing life’s challenges. Every cut combines rock, pop, musical theater and chamber music into a hybrid I’ve never heard before. This is a heartfelt journey into the souls of some of the most genuinely emotional pop composer of the last 40 years.

Best of 2008

My favorite album of 2008 thus far! It's been a long time since I've loved an album in its entirety - NOTES FROM THE EDGE is simply beautiful from first note to last. Mark Governor's arrangements & Kathy Fisher's vocal performance of this brilliantly selected song list allow us to experience each and every one of them in a brand new way. The Bulgarian choir on "Hidden Place" and the viola solo in "Hey You" are two notably genius moments of the album, but my favorite is the joyfully poignant "Take It With Me."
